Home Care
Help at home may be considered if you or a loved one wants to stay in their own home but feels they are finding it difficult. Care can be flexible depending on what is required. Sessions can range from 30 minute visits to 24-hour live-in assistance. The care can be short term after a stay in hospital or longer term. Care can be for general daily activities to more advanced needs requiring input from nursing staff.
Live-in Care
Increasingly people are looking for an alternative to a care home. Having a live-in carer allows someone to stay in their own home, maintain independence whilst avoiding too much change. The care is one-to-one and is built around the individual's care needs. Carers help with personal care, activities of daily living and provide friendship and companionship.
Care Homes
Care homes provide accommodation with personal care 24 hours a day. Care homes can provide stimulation with activities and socialising with other residents. Meals, bills and laundry are usually included in the cost but hairdressing, chiropody etc. would be an extra in most homes. The home may offer specialist equipment or have qualified nurses. Care homes can cater for different needs, they can be Residential, Nursing, Dementia or homes that can accept from some or all of the above.
Respite Care
Respite may be considered in the short term after a brief stay in hospital. It can allow time to recuperate with skilled staff to support you. It may be an option if a carer is on holiday or needs a break. Respite options could be a care home or to have a live-in carer to support somebody in their own home.
